This week we have seen our first and second measurable snowfalls. On Monday we had about six inches fall and then on Thursday night/early Friday morning we had another four or so inches fall. By Friday afternoon the sun was shining and the snow was melting. Today we had temperatures in the thirties with rain, so most of the snow is now melted.
I love to look out this window at work whenever there is snow. I always get a beautiful view from here and is one of my favorite views no matter what season it is.
I finished spinning the braid of fiber from Flannel Cakes which I had on the Sparrow. The colorway is Netherlands of a 70% Merino/30% Cashmere blend. I ended up with 202 yards of a DK weight which I think will become a slouchy hat for me to wear when my hair is up in a bun. My hair gets put up in a bun almost every other day at the moment, so my ears and neck get cold when the temperatures get low. I don’t know when I will cast it on, as I am trying really hard not to start anything new until I finish at least one wip and I do have a request from a small granddaughter for a purple sweater which I should do before I make anything else for myself.
I didn’t let the Sparrow stay empty for very long. As soon as the previous skein was off and onto the skein winder, I started the second spin. This 4 oz braid is from Oink Pigments which I picked up at Shenandoah Fiber Festival a few years ago. The colorway is “Crunchy Leaves” and it is on Oink Fluff which is a superwash Targhee. I really like how this is spinning up and this spin is giving me a chance to learn a lot more about my Sparrow, Goldie (short for Goldfinch). This fiber I intend to chain-ply when the singles are finished.
I did not work on the Freckled Whimsey Advent socks this week. I have been devoting my knitting time to the Jelly Roll Blanket which I have had on the needles since at least June of 2021. Last Sunday I had just started strip three and now I am 90% through strip five. I need to put a progress marker on the blanket now, so that I can report the exact amount increased since tonight. I am using Toad Hollow Advent yarns right now. I have their yarns from the 2020 and 2021 Advents. When I finish with the Toad Hollow yarn I will move on to another Advent yarn that I have in my stash. The width of my Jelly Roll is 48 inches. I do not know how long I will make it yet. I would really like it to fit the length of my husband who happens to be 6’5″, but we will have to wait and see if that really happens.
I purchased a 2022 planner this year which I hope will help me be more organized. The weekly pages have large squares where I can include a to do list. I am hoping that this will help keep me on track and organized with what has to be done and when. Reminders about updating the blog, catching up on my Storyworth stories before the subscription expires, writing notes to the grandkids, and keeping track of started and finished projects are just a few of the things I would like to take note of this year. Having all of this available in one book sounds wonderful to me. Now to see that I keep with the program this year.
Sorry this is a long post but there was so much to catch up on.
Until next time, make it a great knitting day!
