Although the blocking of the wedding shawl happened on the floor of the hotel room the night before the wedding, the shawl was completely dry for the Saturday just after noontime nuptials. I had forgotten to bring my blocking pins, so we made a stop at Walmart on the way into town to purchase the long quilter’s pins to use. I had also forgotten to bring my blocking mats, so begged for towels from the front desk to wrap the shawl in once it soaked and then lay it out to dry.
Mom was thrilled to have the shawl to wrap around her shoulders and it was a bonus that it matched the jewelry she wore that day. She told everyone who commented on the shawl that I had made it just for her for that day. When knitwear is received so joyfully, I am more inclined to knit for that person.
While at Mom’s house I found three other pieces that I have knit for her. There were the socks that I knit her many years ago which she was so surprised when they fit—she has a women’s size 12 foot and no socks have ever fit her quite right, but those did; there was the shawl that I made her a decade or more ago which she has in her closet to go with other outfits; and there was the cowl that I gave her two years ago stacked in with other scarfs, gloves, and hats many of which I recognized as making but not remembering giving to her. It is so satisfying to see that the items I make for her are used on a regular basis.
The shawl was knit using size 7 Knitters Pride interchangeable needle tips. The yarn is from Baad Mom Yarns, LLC in Icy Mom base in the Water (Visce) colorway. I do not remember when or where this was purchased, but do think it was in a KnitCrate box received quite some time ago. I loved working with this yarn. There was just enough variation in the coloring to keep my interest so that I didn’t put this project down. It also helped that I had a deadline!
I had your other blog info, glad to have found this one from your IG link. The shawl is beautiful, your mom looks so happy and her new husband looks like he’s a lot of fun!!
I’ve only knit 3 pairs of socks and my grand daughter claimed them as hers when I knit them LOL. She moved to AZ so maybe I will try again :P.
Deadlines can sure kill the mood tho with the stress of knowing it has to be done!! LOL
Thank you for the compliment.
Mom is happy and they are good together.
If your granddaughter had moved to AZ, you should be able to keep whatever socks you knit now.
I’m going to try to keep this site up a little better than the last one. Only two more semesters and then the schedule will be a little easier to keep.
Have a great day!
